The 5 Fronteras (From hotel to hotel)

In Andalusia, especially in the province of Cadiz, many villages have ‘de la Frontera’ in their name. This originated in the 13th century when the Moors (Arabs) fought the Christians in Andalusia. Many towns were on the border (frontera) of both their territories. We discovered that it is a beautiful region for cycling, partly through Parque Natural los Arconales. And did you know that many ‘de la Fronteras’ belong to the famous Andalusian pueblos blancos (white villages)?

The 5 Fronteras , the showpiece of our cycling holidays is a 7-day round trip with an average of 90 Km per day . You cycle in small groups throughout the province of Cadiz . Highlights include the climb from Grazalema to Puerto de las Palomas (1183m) and the ride from Castellar de la Frontera to Grazalema . Our support vehicle is equipped with the necessary facilities for the road and also luggage transport . You cycle along quiet roads and pass the famous white villages of Cadiz ( Grazalema, Arcos de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera, Castellar de la Frontera ). After cycling, take the opportunity to discover any village or town , like the Sherry bodegas in Jerez de la Frontera , or enjoy a beach day (El Palmar) during the rest day in Vejer de la Frontera.

Programma

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the LVC team. If you have booked a transfer to your accommodation, this will be arranged for you. Once you arrive at the hotel, we will be ready to greet you. In the evening, there will be a briefing where you will be given all the information and your rented bikes ( if requested)and equipment will be handed over.#hetavontuurbeginthier.

Grazalema – Arcos de la Frontera

Departing from the hotel in Grazalema, we take a beautiful tour through the charming village. We then climb to the highest peak (Puerto de las Palomas, 1187M) of the Sierra de Grazalema, with breathtaking views. This is followed by an impressive descent to Zahara de la Sierra. Via Prado del Rey and Algar, we cycle through hilly terrain to the famous white village of Arcos de la Frontera, also known as the gateway to the Sierra of Cadiz. Enjoy an overnight stay at Hotel Los Olivos.

Arcos de la Frontera – Vejer de la Frontera

Discover the breathtaking landscape of Arcos de la Frontera and enjoy the spectacular views during our cycling tour “The 5 Fronteras”. From the charming village, we cycle towards Algar along the enchanting Los Hurones reservoir. Via San Jose del Valle, we enter the Sherry region and reach Jerez de la Frontera, the wine city par excellence. Be surprised by the delicious sherry wines of Tio Pepe, Sandeman and Harveys Bristol Cream, which will ring like bubbles in your ears.

Jerez de la Frontera – Vejer de la Frontera

We Leave Jerez de la Frontera and explore the impressive bull riding area, the Ruta del Toro. After a challenging 4km climb, we reach the historic village of Medina Sidonia, which played an important role during the conquest of Andalusia. Enjoy a short break before we cycle towards the breathtaking coast, where the beautiful white village of Vejer de la Frontera awaits us. Stay overnight at the authentic Hotel San Francisco, housed in an old monastery.

Vejer de la Frontera : Rest day

Today you can enjoy a well-deserved rest day . If you have the opportunity, visit the towns of El Palmar or Caños de Meca on the coast . Or explore Vejer de la Frontera with its wealth of historic buildings.

Vejer de la Frontera – Castellar de la Frontera

After a well-deserved rest day, we get back on our bikes, ready for the kings ride of the 5 Fronteras. Today we visit the beautiful mountain range and pass the picturesque village of Alcala de los Gazules, before cycling towards Puerto Galiz at an altitude of 417 metres. After an impressive descent, we continue towards Jimena de la Frontera and finally reach our final destination of the day, historic Castellar de la Frontera. Here we spend the night in an old castle that has been converted into a hotel.

Castellar de la Frontera – Grazalema

One last day in the saddle. We start the last ride of this week, leaving from our hotel in Castellar and cycling towards the province of Malaga. On the way, we pass the well-known village of Ronda, with its impressive bridge. After passing through Ronda, we continue our route to Grazalema, arriving at our start hotel. Enjoy this spectacular final stage and end your adventure cycling trip with Le Velo Cycling Holidays in style.
